Olsson and Granheim on their way down Mount Everest on ski - The Everest Expedition 2006!

Skiing down the world`s highest mountain Mount Everest, must be the biggest venture in the world. The Swedish, Tomas Olsson, is missing on Everest north face, while Norwegian Tormod Granheim has descended to 6500 meter. According to Tomas Olsson`s website and ExplorersWeb, the two skiers began their ski descent around lunch 16 May after a 14 hour hard ascent to the summit. One hour later, they began skiing down the Norton couloir.

Cecilie Skog become the first woman who reached the North Pole from land!

On late Monday evening 24 April 2006, the Norwegian Cecilie Skog become the first woman who reach the North Pole from land! Before that Cecilie become the third Norwegian to reach all the 7 Summits, and the first woman in Norway and Scandinavia to reach all the 7 Summits. Now Cecilie and her tour mates Rolf Bae (31) og Per-Henry Borch (35) have reached the North Pole after 49 day hard workt. Now Cecilie has become the first woman in the world to reach all the seven tallest mountains on the seven continents and also reaching the three poles Mount Everest, the South Pole and the North Pole. She has written polar history with her last expedition to walk from land to the North Pole as the first woman.

Ancient pyramid found in Mexico - built by the same people who constructed the Teotihuacan complex!

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient pyramid buried under a hill on the outskirts of Mexico City. The pyramid is believed be 1,500 years old and was built by the same ancient people who constructed the Teotihuacan complex, known as the City of the Gods. For Mexico, this wonder is expected to be a new big tourist attraction.

Judas was no traitor - The Bible history has to be rewritten due to discovery of the Gospel of Judas!

The discovery of the Coptic written papyruses manuscripts were annonced 6 April 2006 at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. National Geographic News is part of the National Geographic Society. Some biblical scholars consider the Gospel of Judas as the most significant archaeological discovery in 60 years. The only known surviving copy of the gospel was found in a codex, or ancient book, that dates back to the third or fourth century A.D. Attempt for skiing down Mount Everest - The world`s most risky stunt!

The Norwegian Tormod Granheim and the Swedish Tomas Olsson plan to ski down the world`s highest mountain, Mount Everest, in the Himalaya region. They hope to make an attemp from Everest's North side in May. These men successfully skied down Cho Oyu in 2004. Cecilie Skog has reached the top of Kosciuszko in Australia, and now she has completed all the 7 Summits!

Cecilie is the third Norwegian to reach all the 7 Summits, and the first lady in Norway and Scandinavia to reach all the 7 Summits. It`s a milestone in her life. The Seven Summits are the highest peaks on each continent: Mount Everest, Aconcagua, McKinley, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson, Carstensz Pyramid or, Koskiusko. She has been working on this project for seven years, and finally in the beginning of February 2006 she accomplished the last top. There is a debate on whether Kosciuszko should be the highest peak for Oceania. Anyway Cecilie made an attemp on Carstensz Pyramid in West Papua - Irian Jaya in Indonesia, but she had to return due to threats from a guerrilla group in the jungle. Therefore she went to Australia to complete the Seven Summits by reaching the top of Australia`s tallest mountain.

Northern light similar as it is in Norway is discovered on Mars!

European Space Agency - ESA - explores the space. Based on information which their Sattelite Mars Express has gathered, there is a northern light on the red planet Mars. In the northern part of the land of the midnight sun, Norway, the rays of light shoot down from the space. It forms draperies which spread all over the sky. These wonder of the world has been connected with superstition, mythology and fairy tales. It has also inspired artists and poemers. It must be the world`s best light show. Now there is found a similar light phenomenon out in the space.

Ancient rock carvings found in China indicate that people used skis earlier than believed!

Cliff paintings of hunters in rugged remote northwestern China appear to prove that Chinese were adept skiers in the Old Stone Age, Xinhua news agency reported on 26 January 2006. Norwegians have always claimed that skiing was invented in Norway and that the word skiing has its roots from the Norwegian language. Perhaps the history has to be rewritten? Cecilie Skog threatened by a guerrilla group near Carstensz Pyramid - Iran Jaya - West Papua, Indonesia, and had to return!

Cecilie Skog`s attemp on Carstensz Pyramid was wasted. This is the highest mountain in Oceania located deep in the jungle of Irian Jaya - West Papua - in Indonesia. Aften being forced to return by the guerrilla group Free Papua Movement - OPM, Cecilie from Norway had to find another mountain. Her aim is to conquere all the seven summits, and she has one left. The seven summits are the highest mountains on each continent: Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Vinson and Mount Everest. Cecilie will now try to reach the top of Mount Kosciuszko, which is the highest mountain in Australia. It counts for being approved on the Seven Summits list, so hopefully Cecilie will make it anyway.

Cecilie Skog reached the top of Mount Vinson 9th January 2006, and now she going for another of the 7 Summits!

Cecilie Skog (31 year) from Norway and her team reached the top of Mount Vinson in Antarctica. Now she is heading further for reaching another top among the 7 summits. Her team member is Bjorn Sekkesater - Bjørn Sekkesæter (38 year) from Trondheim in Norway. At moment she is going together with Bjorn to reach the top of the mountain Carstensz Pyramid Punkak Jaya in Iran Jaya - West Papua, Indonesia. The seven summits are the highest peaks on the continents: Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Vinson & Everest. Cecilie has soon completed them all!

View photos of the West Papua's lost world - discovery of unknown area and species in the Indonesian jungle!

This area, which is covered by pristine tropical forest, is now considered as Papua`s Garden of Eden. There is no sign of human impact or presence. An international team of scientists reports that they have found dozens of new species of plants and animals in the dense jungle in West Papua - Indonesia, also known as Iran Jaya. One of the discoveries is a new large mammal, the golden-mantled tree kangaroo - Dendrolagus pulcherrimus. The team was organised by the US-based organisation Conservation International, together with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.

The Norwegian Viking Rune Gjeldnes arrived Terra Nova at 02.00 CET today – The world`s longest ski tour ever is completed!

The expedition The Longest March is completed. By crossing Antarctica unsupported in 2005-2006 on ski, Rune achieved a new world record. This is considered to be the world`s longest ski tour ever. Rune marched 4804 kilometres in 90 days. He is also the first person to ski unsupported across both the poles! Rune crossed the Arctic Ocean, from Severnaya Zemlya in Russia via the North Pole to Cape Discovery in Canada in the year 2000, and now he succeeded to cross the Antarctic continent from Queen Mauds Land via the South Pole to Victoria Land. In addition Rune skied across Greenland lengthways from Cap Farewell to Cap Morris Jessup in 1996. With that, Rune has completed the gruelling explorers Grand Slam - skiing unsupported across the three largest ice caps in the world!

New world record by the Norwegian Viking Rune Gjeldnes!

Rune is real geuine record breaker. He has during the past ten days kited more than 1400 kilometres. He has broken his own personal distance record three times. He has also broken the world solo and unsupported distance record, and taken the world record for longest unsupported ski-trek in history. Rune is way ahead of schedule and is getting close to his goal to become the first and only to ski across the North Pole and South Pole unsupported. Finally he decided that he deserved a good day rest and stayed in the tent to recharge his human batteries - before he walk on again!
