The world`s longest solo ski expedition - Rune Gjeldnes from Norway broke the world record!

On Tuesday 03.01.2006 Rune Gjeldnes broke another Norwegian Børge Ousland's solo ski record from 1997. So far on Rune`s expedition The Longest March, he has been skiing solo 62 days and 2845 kilometres. On Rune`s record day, he kept on for several hours more, and made a total distance of 140 kilometres this day, but this is not the end of the walk. Rune is aiming for more. In few days he hopes to break another record held by some other Norwegians....

The second Norwegian group has reached the South Pole!

On the 31st December 2005, the Norwegian expedition Team Inge manage to reach the Geographical South Pole too. It took them 38 days to make it. In history only 13 Norwegiand have managed to reach the South Pole from the "coast", unsupported! So it is a very special list they have joined. And it starts with the famous Norwegian Roal Amundsen! The wellknown Norwegian tour operator Hvitserk is organising this and another expedition to the South Pole. The other expedition reached the South Pole 27 December this year (2005).

Cecile Skog from Norway is on her way to climb Mount Vinson, one of the Seven Summits!

The Seven Summits represent the highest peaks on the seven continents. The seven summits are Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Mt. Vinson and Mount Everest. This mountain is one of the Seven Summits. It's the tallest in Antarctic and for Cecilie it will be her sixth of the 7 Summits (www.7summits.com). Observations and footprints of Bigfoot found in Kota Tinggi - Maylasia!

Reports about a Bigfoot being viewed in Kota Tinggi has attracted the attention of both locals as well as the media. Three workers who were building a fishpond in Kampung Mawai claimed they saw a huge furry creature, standing almost 2,5 metres tall. Malaysia Nature Society (MNS) Johor branch member Vincent Chow said an MNS member who happened to be there, found a huge footprint, between 40 cm and 50 cm long, in the mud.

Cecilie Skog og her team reached the South Pole unsupported the 27th December 2005!

After marching for nearly a month the Team Rolf-Cecilie finally reached the Geographical South Pole! The wellknown Norwegian tour operator Hvitserk is organising this expedition. Nobody has ever gone to the South Pole using this route and the area is totally unexplored. There are no maps and no good satellite pictures of this area. The Norwegian lady climber Cecilie Skog has now reached another milestone in her life: reaching the South Pole, but this is not the end of her journey. Cecilie`s aim is also to reach the top of Mount Vinson before she returns to Norway in the end of January. This mountain is one of the Seven Summits. It's the tallest in Antarctic and for Cecilie it will be her sixth of the 7 Summits.

Maya painting found in Guatemala telling the story of creation and mythology of kingship - View the amazing photo!

Reported by National Geographic, archaeologists uncovered 13 December 2005 the final section of the earliest known Maya mural ever found. The painting on the wall dates to 100 B.C. In addition to the mural, they found the oldest known Maya royal burial, dating to 150 B.C. The leader of this excavation project called San Bartolo is William Saturno. He is an archaeologist with the University of New Hampshire and the Harvard Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. The research has been supported by the National Geographic Society and is conducted with the Guatemalan Institute of Anthropology and History. What new brings the find to the Maya Indian`s history?

Sudden deaths on Mount Everest caused by lack of Oxygen!

It`s so fantastic standing on the top of the world - Mount Everest. It`s also fantastic viewing the mountains around, but as written about in an earlier article on our website, it`s also a big risk climbing this mountain. Rune Gjeldnes make progress in his attempt to cross the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica without re-supplies!

On day 4 (06.11.2005) Rune finally started The Longest March as his expedition is called. So far the Norwegian Rune has been out for 37 days today. Wednesday 7th December he reported that it was almost no wind! Yesterday's distance (8th December) of 20 kilometres feeled short compared with the distances covered lately, but 20 kilometres is 20 kilometres closer to the goal, and Rune is very satisfied with his progress.

WWF has discovered a mysterious mammal in Borneo`s jungle - View the sensational photos!

Researchers from the organisation WWF - World Wide Fund For Nature, formerly called the World Wildlife Fund, may have discovered a new carnivore species in the dense, central forests of Borneo - The Heart of Borneo. The animal, a mammal slightly larger than a domestic cat with dark red fur and a long, bushy tail, was photographed twice by a camera trap at night. This could be the first time in more than a century that a new carnivore has been discovered on the island.

The biggest archaeological discovery since 50 year in USA - A lost Indian city in Range Creek - Utah

View the Godzilla - Fossil discovered of a unknown sea monster

With the crocodile looking creature`s enormous size, it would be a quite big challenge for Crocodile Dundee to capture it. Scientists call the remains of the 135-million-year-old sea monster for Godzilla. It was found in southern Argentina in an area that was once part of the Pacific Ocean. The scientific name on the creature is Dakosaurus andiniensis, and it`s an entirely new species of ancient crocodile.

Today it`s his seventh day. Yesterday the Norwegian made 9 kilometres in 7 hours. The sun is shining and the weather is hot - only -3 Celsius and no wind. As he reports, his sledge is still heavy and the terrain is steep, but he keeps the spirit up for walking The Long March.

Rune Gjeldnes is has now started a new historical attempt on an expedition: crossing the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica without re-supplies!

The expedition is called the Longest March. The Norwegian Rune Gjeldnes` aim is to become the first person in the world to cross the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica without re-supplies. Børge Ousland - Borge Ousland, who is also from Norway, was the first to do it, but he did it with re-supplies. Rune is 34 year, and still eager to set new records. He will the coming 3 months be alone in the ice landscape. With 500 songs in his MP3 player, he finds inspiration to walk the whole distance reaching circa 4600 kilometres.
