Here we present reviews of the most exciting traditional music and dance.

Dustin Cowshit, Ålen Bar in Moss, Norway - Rock with prairie-fueled performance

Dustin Cowshit, Ålen Bar in Moss, Norway

Dusty Cowshit took the audience on a whirlwind ride across the vast prairies of the Moss region in Norway. This was fully set with their electrifying cowboy style in their show "Same Shit, New Wrapping". The band’s high-energy performance ignited the crowd at Ålen Bar on Friday 29th November 2024, delivered a night of unforgettable music and entertainment.

Yeehaw ho-ho-ho. Stepped into a night where the wild west came alive! Galloped across the prairie, kicked up the dust and finally rode into a dark saloon where the air was thick with adventures. As introduced by the event organiser, Dusty Cowshit is Norway's third-best band. Known from radio, occasional TV appearances, and even some coverage in various magazines and press publications, these cowboys saddled up to bring their wild show to Ålen Bar.

During the evening the band performed wildly inventive renditions of well-known classics by other artists. Each song was infused with Dusty Cowshit’s unique flair, blending nostalgia with a fresh, creative twist that left the audience buzzing with delight. Fans were on their feet, singing along with full-throated enthusiasm as the band’s dynamic presence filled the venue. By the end of the show, the crowd shouted for more, a testament to the band’s undeniable ability to entertain and energize. It rocked so hard that I really think the audience could smell the dusty cowshit.

It was a night to remember at Ålen Bar, with Dusty Cowshit proving once again that their prairie-infused sound and stage charisma are truly unmatched. Especially I enjoyed their excellent sense of humour and lively connection with the audience.

Songs with a high sing-along factor as Splitter Pine, Sámiid Ædnan, Run Run Away, Living Next Door to Alice, and Cotton Eye Joe, really lived up the event. And even more, the band surprised the audience by adding a festive flair to their prairie-inspired performance with creative renditions of traditional Christmas songs. Not forget The Støveldance.

As the final notes of their set rang out, the band turned up the energy even higher, sending the audience into a frenzy of laughing, jumping, dancing, and singing.

Based on information from Dustin Cowshit`s Facebook page, they tell about their life of music and entertainment. For years, Dusty Cowshit has been a colourful "nuisance" on the local music scene and a proud ambassador of Moss, boasting hundreds of concerts both at home and abroad, as well as numerous TV appearances. The band was born almost as a joke during a costume party in Larkollen, near Moss, in the fateful year of 1991. However, what began as a lighthearted prank was met with great enthusiasm, and soon the hay bale started rolling. What appeared to be a "one-night stand-up" has delightfully never ended, and in the right settings, the band has proven more than capable of taking audiences by storm.

Dusty Cowshit is a nine-member powerhouse that blends humour and musicality with its signature cowboy-polka style. All with funny nick names. The group wields a range of unconventional instruments including suitcases, spoons, saws, washboards, and dried bean stalks - alongside classic prairie staples like the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, and a delightfully off-key "Mexican" trumpet.

Over the years, the band has released four LP albums with hilariously funny titles: ”Coventry & Westham”, ”Østenfor Soon, Western for Råde”, ”Öppna barskap” and "This is shit". Their biggest hit to date is their original rendition of Nocturne, which dominated the Norwegian national media VG Chart for countless weeks. This was the same song another Norwegian Irish duo won the Eurovision Song Contest with.

Dusty Cowshit continues to delight audiences with their unique blend of humour, charm, and musical talent, solidifying their place as an unforgettable act in Norwegian music history. The band proved they could not only transport the audience to the prairies, into the dark saloons, but also bring a touch of cowboy Christmas magic to the region of Moss.
