Wonders of the world destroyed in Afghanistan

2004-01-05
Incredible historical and culture treasures are lost
It is really a big shock, and a sad day for us all. For all people in the world this was a big loose. Especially for adventure traveller, the world became much poorer after this. Since it not possible to travel back in time, these wonders will be lost forever, and there is no chance to experience the incredible Buddha statues.

The highest statue is 53 metres high. The oldest statues are 5000 years old. These statues were symbols of an interesting story, strong religion, unique culture and an incredible human creation.

According to BBC, the Taleban announced on Wednesday that they had completed the destruction of two giant statues of Buddha at Bamiyan, despite international appeals to save Afghanistan's heritage. The Taleban soldiers used dynamite to blow them.

The BBC correspondent Kate Clark has now left Afghanistan after being ordered out of the country by the ruling Taleban government on Wednesday. The Taleban were angry over the BBC's broadcast of an interview with a US professor, who described the destruction of the statues as "barbaric". The Taleban accused Clark of filing "biased" reports of their controversial order to destroy all statues in Afghanistan, including two giant Buddhas in the central province of Bamiyan.

The demolishing of the unique statues was extremely sad. For the whole world's humanity this was an irreplaceable loss. This was also something many adventure traveller would like to experience, but there are still wonders to see other places on earth. So don't loose your hope for great travel explorations in the future! We in Travel Explorations will tell you more about the world's most exciting destinations and adventures.
