Based in
Chamonix,
he has taken skiing to a new level, and skied a number of the classic
test-pieces, including a cordless, solo descent of the
notorious Eugster Diagonal on the North Face of Aiguille du
Midi (1200m @ 50-55 degrees, second ever cordless).
January 2002 he
reached the summit of Aconcagua (6962m) and skied the
Polish Glacier. The 2003 summer he climbed and skied the two Chinese summits
Muztagh Ata, and Kuksay
Peak in a period
of about a week. The first being more than 7500m, and the latter some 7200m.
Kuksay was soloed in a roundtrip of less than 30 hours involving a bevy and some
3000 meters of vertical gain.
Tormod Granheim`s next big challenge is
the neighbouring mountain, Mount
Everest, the highest mountain in the world - for both climbing
and skiing? He plans to conquer the mountain in 2006.
