The race started Saturday 12th November previous year in Vigo,
Northern Spain. After approximately 8 months and nine legs, the boats will reach as mentioned
the finale destination Gothenburg on 17th June this year. The distance for
sailing is over 57,800 kilometres. Seven boats participate from different
countries.
This is definitely the hardest sailing competition in the world, and one of
the most extreme of the extreme sports. The challenges are big, from tropical
zones around equator with tropical heat and weak wind, to icing snow storms in
the South Ocean, where the waves are circa 30 metres high, and where the crew
press themselves up to the limit of what humans can stand.
