The Pacific is exploding

2004-01-05
What is really happening on the Pacific islands?
The paradise is now turning in to a hell. Pollution, riots, civil wars, killing, raping, coups, economical problems and nature disasters, threaten the environments. For they who dream about idyllic beaches, palm trees, crystal clear water and noble people in the pacific, should think twice before they go to these islands. Here is a brief report about the situation on some of the islands

- Solomon-islands: civil war between rivalling ethnic groups. - Fiji: coup and ethnic conflicts. - Papua New Guinea: fighting between tribes. Many fears anarchy. - Samoa: lack of democracy. It's said to be ruled by totally incompetent people. - Western Papua (Irian Jaya): the natives fight against military forces from Indonesia to protect their land. - Marshall-islands: very much pollution destroys the idyllic beaches - Cook islands: this island group has economic problems - Tuvalu: the island is sinking down in the ocean. - In general; the waves are higher due to changes in the climate.

Tourists are warned about going to some of the mentioned islands. Please check our Useful Links menu to find updated reports about the situation in Pacific
