The Norwegian K2 Expedition is near the K2 top!

2005-07-17
So far they have been at the mountain for 57 days. The last 3 days from 11 to 14 July have been uncertain due to turbulent weather. With a positive weather forecast, the members started out on a 4-5 day period on Sunday. However, the weather got worse yesterday. Heavy snowfall forced all members in the expedition down from the mountain. Before this all the Norwegian members passed the 7000-border, and established Camp 3. They still need to be patient before they make their attemp to the top!

According to reports from the Norwegian K2 expedition`s website, even if the progress was a bit lower that hoped for, all members are happy to have reached 7000 meters. Cecilie, Rolf and Trym has also spent one night in Camp 3.

Now the members are waiting for a new opening between the snow-showers, so that Øystein and Sigurs also can spend one night at 7000 meters.

They can still make the top within July.

Two days ago the Americans reached Camp 2 on Abruzzi. When they arrived Camp 1 on their way down, they found that all 5 tents had been taken by a big avalanche. They started to dig for their friends who had been in Camp 1, without knowing that all were safe in BC. It must have been a disturbing experience!

Also three climbers from the Republic of Chech have now joined them, and they are all having a good time together.
