According to the organiser
Reiseliv 06, people worldwide are travelling as never before, with
half-a-billion holiday trips sold globally so far this year. Reiseliv has noted
the effects of this positive trend in that the travel trade is making a bigger
commitment than before to this event.
Smaller niche operators offering adventure travel and tour operators
providing tailored packages for various target groups are continuing to expand
their presence.
And Reiseliv is naturally also attracting charter operators, other
Scandinavian countries, exciting destinations in Norway - in other words, travel
for everyone.
New exhibitors include Bosnia-Herzegovina, Japan, Korea, the Philippines,
Choice Hotels, Thon Hotels and Best Western. Others making a strong showing at
the event will be Italy, presenting a large number of exhibitors, and Hedmark
county in east central Norway with many exciting activities.
Buying holiday homes in other countries is becoming increasingly popular in
Norway, and a large number of exhibitors will be offering houses and flats in a
separate "Home Abroad" section.
One innovation this year is a special collaboration between Reiseliv and its
northern Norway and Svalbard partner regions.

All visitors and exhibitors were invited to the Opening Ceremony, which started Thursday
12 January. Mr. Jan Sunde, President of Skål International, the world's
largest travel industry organisation, opened the travel trade and show, and as
mentioned, her Majesty Queen Sonja attended.
The broad programme has been developed in cooperation
with Skål International Oslo, Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the
Norwegian Travel Managers Association (NTMA). It ranged from development trends in the travel trade itself, as well as the
meeting and congress market, through e-commerce, to meeting planning
and travel management.
Meetings and conferences are becoming increasingly important.
The Norway Convention Bureau (NCB), MPI, the Hospitality Sales and
Marketing Association International (HMSAI) and Norway Trade Fairs/Reiseliv 06 have joined
forces to focus on this sector locally, nationally and internationally.
The next travel fair will be arranged Reiseliv 07, 11.-14. January 2007!
Part 2 and 3 is coming soon with more reports and photos from the travel fair
in Norway!
