The Mission - The greatest scene in the history of making movies!
2012-05-23
One of the finest momentent of the history in moviemaking. First contact between people with different lifestyle and culture has always fascinated me.
I was in Iguazu on the border between Argentina and Brazil, and I travelled around in the Amazons where the story of the movie took place. I met nice local Indians on my way which was an experience of a lifetime. Both this wonderful scene with the Jesuit priest playing on a fluit and the music here has meant so much to me since then.
Gabriel's Oboe" is the main theme for the 1986 film The Mission directed by Roland Joffé. The theme was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, and has since been arranged and performed several times by artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Holly Gornik, Brynjar Hoff, among others. Vocalist Sarah Brightman put lyrics to the theme to create her own song, "Nella Fantasia".
