The first pyramid in Europe is discovered near Sarajevo, Bosnia! True or false?

2006-05-18
Archaeologists have started excavation of what they believe might be a pyramid hidden beneath a hill in Bosnia. Semir Osmanagic is in charge of the project to uncover the ancient structure. Known as Visocica, the 650m (2,120ft) triangular mound, overlooking Visoko, has long been shrouded in a local legend. The mentioned Bosnian archaeologist who leads the project, has said it resembles pyramid sites he has studied in Latin America. So far he and his team have revealed a narrow entrance to what could be an underground network of tunnels.

If it`s true about a pyramid, it would be the first pyramid discovered in Europe, and one of the history`s greatest discoveries. The area where the claimed discovery is done, has a rich history. Visoko was the capital of Bosnia in the Middle Ages.

The world's oldest and largest pyramid found in Bosnia? Is it to good to be true? This incredible story has been covered in the media around the world for many months now, and perhaps even longer. Also wellknown media as BBC has published articles about the discovery on its website.

Is the story credible? Where are the evidences? Who are the researchers? Many people have been sceptical to the reports about an ancient pyramid in Europe, and the pyramid is also said to be a gigant. Is it a false claim in Balkans? Is it not strange that somebody build a pyramid in Europe, and that they who recorded the history even knew about it?

Already in April previous year (2005), Bosnia's daily Dnevni Avaz reported about "a sensational discovery" of "the first European pyramid" in the central town of Visoko, about 20 miles north of Sarajevo.

Dnevni Avaz has reported that excavations at a hill site above the town have been going on for several months and initial analyses "have confirmed the original claim that this is Europe's first pyramid and a monumental building, similar in dimensions to the Egyptian pyramids." The artefact is said to be around 10,000 years old. "The pyramid is 100 metres high and there is evidence that it contains rooms and a monumental causeway ... The plateau is built of stone blocks, which indicates the presence at the time of a highly developed civilisation,"

Pyramid in Europe? True or false? Time will show! Something going on in Bosnia!
