The 100 Greatest Adventure Books of All Time in the National Geographic`s Adventure Magazine cover stories about great explorers. Most books are written by themselves or written based on written accounts from explorers .
The explorers are all characterised by deep curiosity combined with great courage. Some of them are Joshua Slocum, Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen, Marco Polo, Thor Heyerdal, Ernest Shackleton, Heinrich Harrer, James Cook, Charles Darwin, T.E. Lawrence. Many of the explorers in these books have ventured into unknown land and made path for others who want to explore more of the world. Some few books are also about great escapes during wars.
Reading these books are really lesson learned about life, travel and adventures. As the British author and poet Rudyard Kipling wrote in the children's story The Jungle Book (1894): "I had six honest serving men. They taught me all I knew. Their names were: Where, What, When, Why, How and Who."
The Travels of Marco Polo was probably the world`s first travel tale, and Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum (1900) was considered as a milestone among travel books at the time it was released.
