2004-03-25

Plans for Ray Yeritsian`s incredible expedition, is reported by the website Xexplorersweb (www.explorersweb.com). According to this website, another climber, Edward Norton, tried to reach the Everest top without oxygen, but nearly died! Edward Norton's expedition reached 8,573 meters, an altitude that was not surpassed for another 29 years. He also made his attempt without oxygen.

So far Messner has been the only person who has been to beat this record 56 years later.

It nearly ended tragic. Norton succumbed to exhaustion and near suffocation just 275 meter shy of the summit. Norton was seconds away from his death before coughing up his larynx on the descent. So this extreme stunts are not without risk.

Ray Yeritsian will make his Everest attempt this spring. In early April he will head out to Cho Oyu first, and then to Everest for a solo, on the so called "1924 Norton line".

Travel Explorations wish him good luck, and we look forward to follow his solo expedition!
