According to Wikipedia, these clouds occur in the winter polar stratosphere at altitudes of 15,000–25,000 meters (50,000–80,000 ft).
Fredrik Weikle took the photo from inside his cottage: "I hardly rose up from the sofa the to take this photo. A wonderful nature experience in a laying condition. In Norwegian Fredrik Weikle said: "Så vidt jeg gadd å lene meg opp av sofan å ta dette bildet. Fin naturopplevelse i liggende tilstand".
Kvamfjellet mountain varied scenery ranging from forest-clad hills featuring beautiful mountain farms to bare mountains spectacularly framed by the peaks of Rondane.
Polar stratospheric clouds or PSCs, also known as nacreous clouds or mother of pearl, due to its iridescence, are clouds in the winter polar stratosphere at altitudes of 15,000–25,000 meters (50,000–80,000 ft).
Due to their high altitude and the curvature of the surface of the Earth, these clouds will receive sunlight from below the horizon and reflect it to the ground, shining brightly well before dawn or after dusk. Read more about this phenomen on Wikipedia.
