Married to the only right God - Narayan in Nepal

2004-02-18
At the moment there are big symbolic weddings arranged in Katmandu, Nepal. At the age from 7 or 8 years all Newar girls becomes in the "Yihee - Ceremony" symbolically with God Narayan (Inkarnation Vishnus) marries.

Today this ceremony goes on for the ethnical group called the Newar! The Newar people are the oldest subpopulation in the Kathmandu-valley. A Newar is easily of a member of a mountaintrunk to differentiation if he loads carries. Only Newar carry their loads with the help of a bamboo bar over the shoulder, to whose both ends are fastened to ropes of load baskets.

According to the website Travallo Globetrotters (www.travallo.de/laender/anapurna/people.html), the mountain trunks carry their rest in a basket on the back, the whole weight by a front tape are held. The Newar live monogam, which in Nepal is not natural. Their wives have the possibility of separating from a man into simple ceremony. They return the betel nuts, which they receive during the marriage-ceremony to their man. At the age from 7 or 8 years all Newar girls become in the Yihee - Ceremony symbolically with God Narayan (Inkarnation Vishnus) marries.

This embodied by a golden picture-eat. Shiva in form of a Bel - fruit is a witness of the wedding. The Newar girls receive thus the status of a married woman. This wedding with the inmortal God Narayan is regarded as the only right wedding, which lasts a life long. Every other marriage with a Newar man is easily resolvable for that. For the women also a widow burn was thus never applicable, since with the death of the married man the real partner lived on. She could return again to her parents' house and marry at any time from new.

The farmer women carry usually black Saris with red boards, the men the typical cotton clothing with that above widen trousers, which become down quite close. Around the waist it bolts a cotton cloth as belt. The knife ' kukhri ', - as at other groups of peoples -, is not carried.

These symbolic marriages are also arranged before the girls real adult marriages, and suppose to give them strength and protection during their whole life.
