Liverpool is the most successfull football club in England, and one of the most successfull clubs in Europe. The club has won eighteen First Division titles (the most of any English club), seven FA Cups, seven League Cups (the most of any English club), five European Cups (the most of any English club) and three UEFA Cups (the most of any English club). Liverpool are a founding member of the G-14 group of leading European football clubs.
Liverpool achieved the League and FA Cup "Double" in 1986 and have won two "Trebles". The first treble of League, League Cup and European Cup was achieved in 1984 and a cup treble was achieved in 2001 comprising the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. Liverpool's total of five European Cups is an English record and the third highest total overall, after Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Liverpool were founded in 1892 and have always played at Anfield. At the moment the club has plans for building a new 60,000 all-seater stadium in the summer of 2007 near Stanley Park. It`s funded by the club's new American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
The club's fans have been involved in two major tragedies. At Heysel Stadium thirty-nine Juventus F.C. fans died when a wall collapsed after crowd troubles in the 1985 European Cup Final, and at Hillsborough in 1989 where ninety-six Liverpool fans lost their lives due to overcrowding.
Many famous players have played on Liverpool. Some of them are Roger Hunt, Kevin Keagen, Alan Hansen, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and now Steve Gerrard.
The song You'll Never Walk Alone, originally from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel and famously recorded by Liverpool musicians Gerry & The Pacemakers, is the anthem of Liverpool FC and has been sung by the Anfield crowd since the early 1960s.
Many people get tears in their eyes when they hear this beautiful song. The song has become popular among the football fans around the world, but no one sings it better than the choir on the Kop at Anfield Road - Liverpool`s football stadium. An other popular song is Fields of Anfield Road based on the tune of the Irish folksong The Fields of Athenry. All good things come from Liverpool, not forget the Bealtes. Liverpool supporters used to sing Beatles songs in the 60s.
Get an unique adventure by going to Liverpool!
Liverpool city is actual more than football. Here you can meet incredible nice people as Gerry & The Pacemakers sings about in the song Ferry cross the Mersey: "The people never turn you away". The city is diverse, energetic and exciting. This year it`s Liverpool's 800th Birthday (2007), and the next year Liverpool is the Capital of Culture (2008). You can also experience great festivals, concerts, beautiful old buildings, shopping around, enjoy life at the modern harbour area, join nice people at the pubs and listen to live music (especially good at Irish pubs). Liverpool is really something, and it`s always something to celebrate!
When the Reds go marching in, great things will happen. So it will be on 23 May 2007!
