Kenya og Tanzania: Experience the world`s biggest animal migration in the kingdom of the Maasai!

2006-02-17
Enjoying wildlife in Kenya and Tanzania is suspence thrill from start to end. It`s called the greatest animal show on the Earth. Each year over 2 million wildebeest & zebra migrate from the short grass plains of the Serengeti into the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The first animals start arriving in July, crossing a shallow river. The migration take place continually through the period as the animals move backwards and forwards over the plains.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is probably the most famous and most visited Reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking views (as seen in the film "Out of Africa", much of which was filmed here), an extraordinary consentration of animals including "the Big Five" (lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros) and may varieties of plains game.

An impressive feature is the annual migration of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles from the plains of the Serengeti that cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara's grasslands from late June, tracked by predators as lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena, and circled by vultures as their journey unfolds. Their dramatic river crossings are a reality for tourists visiting in early July-August.

Resident wildlife in Masai Mara area includes lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, hippo and plentiful plains game. There are also over 250 species of bird in and around the Mara.
