Photo. Phuket in
Thailand was hardly hit by the massive waves (this photo was taken in 1987).
It's a tropical paradise and one of Asia's most popular holiday resorts.
Phuket is also the perfect starting point to discover
nearby tropical destinations as Khao Lak, Coral and Phi Phi Island. The
devastation of Sunday's quake continues to emerge. In the Thai resort of Khao
Lak, the bodies of 700 mainly foreign tourists have been found.
There is
a global movement now to help victims impacted by this tragedy. Aid agencies and
Western countries are giving help to survivors of the Indian Ocean tsunami
disaster, which has killed about 60,000 people. The US has more than doubled its pledge of
funds to $35m. Two flotillas of US warships with 15,000 troops are carrying
relief supplies to the region. Many governments and organisations, including Canada, Australia, the EU and
the UN, are also sending aid.

These photos show that people some places are very vulnerable for high
waves.

The 9.0 magnitude earthquake happened early on Sunday 26 December (2004) near the
coast of the large Indonesian island of Sumatra, and caused huge waves that reached
as far as Africa. This was the world's most powerful earthquake in more than
40 years. It went deep under the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Sumatra,
and set off massive tsunamis that crushed villages and seaside resorts in
several countries across southern and Southeast Asia.
The UN has warned about that disease could double the death toll. So by
helping in different ways there is possible to save many lives and give people a
chance to start up again. Since also a large number of tourists from around the
world have been hit by the Tsunami, this catastrophe has a tremendous wide
spread global impact. This is the moment we have to stay together on our globe
and help each other!

With best hope for the people suffering from the huge
tidal wave! Give them a helping hand. It's means so much for them both
practically and symbolically! Each contribution, small or big, is appreciated.
