Exploration under water in the Mexican golf

2004-02-22
Big treasure found in an sunken galleon.
Treasures for incredible values are brought up to the surface from the galleon "Santa Margarita", which sank in the Mexican golf in 1622. More than ten times as much as they already have found, do the divers expect to find in the wreck.

The divers work for the Australian company Maritime Archaeological Investments Ltd. Among the treasures, which are found, are rare gold coins, gold necklaces and a ring in gold with sapphire. The treasure is worth circa 470 000 pound, reports the company today (Aftenposten, NTB/AFP).

Santa Margarita sank to the bottom on its way from Cuba to Spain. The wreck became localised previous month by an expedition in charge of the diver Andi Matroci from Florida. The company has an exclusive right to the wreck, which they mean is one of the most promising known wrecks in the world.

The story behind the ship would be interesting to know more about. Hopefully will we one day see these unique treasures be displayed one or another places.
