Photo. Machu
Picchu is a popular attraction for tourists worldwide.
The restrictions are introduced by the Peruvian government after pressure
from international organisations. Fewer people will in the future be able to see
the great wonder of the world.
Mystery of past
The Inca Trail up to Machu
Picchu is one of South America's most popular treks. It takes your breath away
literally meant, both regarding the wonderful view of the magnificent wonder of
the world, but also because of the breathtaking nature and thin air in the
height.
Also several mysteries connected to the site attracts
people to the ancient Inca site. Since the ruins of Machu Picchu was
discovered, people have wondered: what was the purpose of the site?
Was it a sacred place for religious
ceremonies, citadel, observatory, hiding place, or was it built for other
purposes. Who knows? The mystery still goes on. Another mystery that also
fascinates people is why it was abandoned within a century of its construction.

mysteries. Will they someday be solved? |

Restrictions
The
500-person limit includes guides,
porters and cooks, which according to Tim Murray-Walker of Journey Latin America
(JLA), means that only some 200 tourists would be walking the trail at any
one time, referred from the British newspaper Telegraphs` website 26/2-2005 (www.telegraph.co.uk).
One of the reasons for putting a limit on trekkers up the Inca Trail is the
rubbish problem. Hundreds of thousands of visitors complete annually the journey
through the Vilcabamba mountain range up to the ruins of Machu Picchu, but the
rubbish they leave behind damage the environment.
The tourist rush has already started to achieve permits for the Inca
Trail.
