Photo. Sagrada Familia, a great monument in Barcelona (in
Spain),
designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi (1852-1926).
This arrangement
has been planned since 1997 and is supported by the UNESCO. Several
organisations are involved. The three main organisations for the event are the
Barcelona City Council, the Catalan Autonomous Government and the Spanish
Government.
Estimated cost
is 368 million Euros. It's expected totally 5 million visitors to the big
arrangement in Barcelona. The Forum
is planned arranged each forth year. Cities as New York,
Mexico City,
Montevideo and
Toronto are candidates
for the next time event.
According to the
arrangers` website (www.barcelona2004.org), the Forum is a
festive journey designed to bring the three main themes to life: cultural diversity, sustainable development
and conditions for peace. For 141 days, this will be the place where
visitors experience cultures and entertainment from around the world through
exhibitions, workshops, peace camp, markets, performances, games and
more.
Barcelona is modern
and culture city in Spain. It's
located on the north-eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the shores
of the Mediterranean. The city is experienced with big arrangements. In 1992
Barcelona was the host
for the Olympic Games. Earlier the city has been the host for the World
Exhibition in 1882 and 1929.
Barcelona is the
second largest city in Spain in
both size and population. It is also the capital of
Catalonia, and 1 of
the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up
Spain.
Barcelona has 1.5
million inhabitants, but included its suburbs it live more than 4 millions in
the area. There are two official languages spoken in
Barcelona: Catalan,
generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and
Castilian Spanish.
It would be interesting to
discuss challenges and opportunities of the 21st century regarding the three
core themes: cultural diversity, sustainable development and conditions for
peace. The arrangers hope that the world be a better place to live after the
arrangement. The intention is good, and we in Travel Explorations wish them good
luck!
