Bomb explosions hit hotels in Jordan`s capital Amman - Hope the best for the nice people in Jordan!

2005-11-09
This is a big paradox: how could this happen in a country with such friendly and hospitable inhabitants? Jordanians are genuine, peaceful and hard working people putting their strongest efforts to build their country and attract tourists to their beautiful country. They have really something to be proud of. We in Travel Explorations express our deepest sympathy to the people in Jordan and tourists who have been stroke by the explosions. I had a wonderful journey in Jordan this summer (2005), and everywhere I met nice people. Many invited me into their private homes for tea and I really enjoyed being with these people.
Therefore it`s especially sad for me to hear that three terrorist operations targeted the international hotels Radisson SAS, the Grand Hyatt and the Days Inn.

At least 52 people have been killed and more than 120 were injured in explosions at in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The three hotels were hit in near-simultaneous blasts at about 2100 (1900GMT).

According to BBC, local police say they suspect the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers. Jordan has as a key ally to US been regarded over years as a prime target for attacks by radical Islamic militants.

I really hope that travellers don`t turn their back to Jordan and Jordanians now. These people don`t deserve it. I really hope that many people will still go to Jordan to experience the country`s great wonders, fascinating culture, beautiful music and of course Jordanians big hearts. Jordanians have my strongest support.

Stein Morten Lund, 9 November 2005

Additional information
It's long time ago I heard about Bedouins and other Jordanians reputation for being especially friendly. Through my 2 weeks journey in July 2005 in Jordan I was never asked about religion or other sensitive matters. What really counts for the people in Jordan is the visitors' personality: attitude and behaviour! This people friendliness it's not only experienced by me.

As Lonely Planet writes on its website: "Jordan is, on the whole, peaceful. More than that, it's one of the most welcoming, hospitable countries in the world. Where else could you leave your belongings on the street for hours at a time, and find them there when you get back? Where else do total strangers with nothing to sell invite you into their homes?" As the Bedouin Ibrahim said to me: Hate and fighting is just waste of life! In Jordan the probably the biggest sin a person can commit, is not giving food and drinks to a person who really need it. See for yourself how Lonely Planet considers people from Jordan and the country: Lonely Planet - Jordan.
