The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reports about two Norwegian girl's adventurous and dramatic journey through Europe and Africa. The 31 000 km tour took seven months by car. Accompanied with two African men, the two girls Synne Mjelve (28) and Cecilie Smith-Christensen (26) started their tour from North Cape in Norway and drove whole the way to Cape Point in South Africa. Friday 29th July they returned fully fit to their home place Oslo.
Their mission was accomplished! In their opinion the rumours about high criminality in Africa is exaggerated. Despite several dramatic incidents the girls found the people in Africa very friendly. They have especially good memories from two occasions:
Their Landrover car became used concerning a Masai wedding in Kenya. They were offered Pepsi and food from a poor carrier by the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
First when they crossed the border to Europe they became robbed three times in different countries.
The Norwegian girls say that it also possible for others do to the same trip, but it is very important with good planning. They spent one year on planning before they carried out their dream.
Fortunately they managed to get sponsors and necessary equipment before the journey started. It will take a time to work through all the memories. Everything has been so different on the tour compared with own environments.
