In the world's
northern country Norway,
there are several great unsolved mysteries. Some of them are of modern time.
Three of the
Norway's X-files are UFO - light phenomena in Hessdalen, Norway`s Crop circles
and the sea-serpent mystery in Seljord.

UFO - light phenomena in
Hessdalen
Hessdalen is a
small valley in the central part of Norway. At
the end of 1981 through 1984, residents of the Valley became concerned and
alarmed about strange, unexplained lights that appeared at many locations
throughout the Valley. Hundreds of lights were observed. At the peak of activity
there were about 20 reports a week.
To solve the
mystery a research group called Project Hessdalen was established in the summer
of 1983. A field investigation was carried out between 21 January and
26 February
1984. Fifty-three light observations were
made during the field investigation. The light observations continued to occur
over years. Lights are still being observed in the
Hessdalen
Valley, but their
frequency has decreased to about 20 observations a year.

An automatic
measurement station was set up in Hessdalen in August 1998. Both data and
alarm-pictures can be viewed on the website below. Project Hessdalen is a
project at Østfold
University College - see the website www.hessdalen.org.
Norway's crop circles
In
Norway
there are mysteries crop circles in the
cornfields. It's revealed that some crop circles around the world are man-made, for
instance on commission by television companies and as commercials, but the majority of
the circles are of unknown origin. Despite of extensive scientific research for more than 10
years (of 250 crop circles in 8 different countries), no one has, up
till now, been able to find out how the patterns are made.
On world basis
approximately 10.000 crop circles have been recorded. The majority of them have
been found in England.
Crop circles have also been registered in
Canada,
U.S.A, Germany,
Holland, New
Zealand,
Australia,
Denmark and
other countries. In Norway it has been registered circles that date back to
1995 according to Norwegian Crop Circle Group (website http://uk.kornsirkler.org).
The movie
"Signs" is also about the crop circles. Mel Gibson plays a former Episcopalian
minister turned farmer who has recently lost his wife and then his faith. One
morning he wakes up to find his two children wandering in a giant "crop circle"
that someone or something has carved into his Pennsylvania
cornfield. They soon find out it's a worldwide phenomenon that has occurred at
such a wide extent that it's unexplainable. Is the crop circles just a bluff or
are they a sign from aliens? Who knows! Maybe we are not alone?
The sea-serpent mystery in
Seljord
What is actually
hidden under that blue and friendly sheet of water in the
Seljord
Lake
? In the middle of Telemark, the county which has
always been associated with fairy tales, folk songs, imagination and creativity,
lies the Seljord Lake, brooding over its great secret. For 250 years, and
probably even longer, people have claimed to see a large and serpent-like creature
in the lake.
The first
written documentation goes back to 1750. However, sea-serpents are not a
phenomenon confined to Seljord alone. They have been observed virtually all over
the world, and over the centuries both large and mysterious creatures have been
seen along the Norwegian coast.
Despite these
rather decisive arguments against there being a sea-serpent in the Seljord Lake,
both local people and visitors continue to observe inexplicable phenomena in the
water, and the attention has not been reduced since the international expedition
in the summer of 1998, when Discovery Channel bought exclusive rights to cover
the search for the monster.
Some may have expected the expedition to make a
sensational discovery. That did not happen. But the analyses from the
registrations that were made with the advanced technical equipment used by the
expedition are now available, and they do contain more than enough to keep the
mystery alive, at least for those who believe. See the website Seljord portal
www.seljordportalen.no
These mysteries are the
Norwegian X-files. Would they ever be solved?
