Mysterious lights in the Norwegian sky attract people from all over the
world to the country. It is probably the first time in history to investigate a
UFO phenomenon, which happens repeatedly. This is just what the Norwegians do
with very advanced equipment.
This is Norway's riddle in the sky. How can you explain a miracle in a world
that can explain everything? This is not an alien hunting project, but a serious
scientific research. But so far it seems that the lights are kind of objects in
the sky and that they behave intelligently. After the phenomenon become famous,
tourists have invaded the little village Hessdalen not so far from the third
biggest city Trondheim, located in the middle part in Norway.
According to the web site Project Hessdalen ( www.hessdalen.org), there was a big "UFO-wave"
in that valley from the end of 1981 to 1984. Several
hundreds observation was done. At the most there were about 20 reports a week.
About 85% of the observations describe a bright light. The others describe
daylight observations. This web site is updated with a new picture every hour.
Project Hessdalen was established in the summer of 1983 by the head of the
University in Østfold, Erling Strand. Other contributors are the Norwegian
research Institute, and other Norwegian scientific institutions. Together they
started a thorough investigation over an extended area. This was carried out
during one month in January and February 1984. 53 observations were done during
that fieldwork. It was also one field investigation in the winter of 1985, but
no phenomena were seen during the period with instruments present.
Observations are still going on, but now in the order of
20 a year. An automatic measurement station was put up in Hessdalen
in August 1998. Alarm-pictures are sent to this station. This is why someone
calls it the UFO-trap.
What is going on in Hessdalen? No one really knows exactly.
Many theories have been launched. People who have seen the mysterious
lights reports that it looks like spaceships. For they who like to observe these
phenomena, there are local people who arrange guiding tours to the best spots.
