The lack of crowds and commercial influence enhances this feeling, making each finding feel personal and rewarding.

Here are five untouched places and mysteries in the region of Oulu:

1. The forest of Sanginjoki
An ancient forest where locals hear strange, whispering voices among the trees? Sanginjoki Forest is a vast woodland area near Oulu. The whispering forest of Sanginjoki doesn’t have a specific legend associated with it, but its name evokes a sense of wonder and mystery. Imagine ancient trees gently rustling their leaves, creating a soft murmur—the forest seems to share its secrets with those who listen closely. While not a literal legend, the tranquility and natural beauty of Sanginjoki inspire stories of their own.

2. The island of Hailuoto
Hailuoto is the third largest island in Finland. Its boasts diverse vegetation, especially along its shores. Coastal meadows in sheltered coves are home to various plant species. Dry pine barrens are also prevalent, and extensive lichen fabrics add to the island’s unique character. Here you can explore its natural beauty, birdwatching sites, and charming landscapes.

Ancient stone structures whose origins and purposes remain a mystery. Located in a remote part of the Oulu region, the Kastelli ruins are a series of large stone formations. Kastelli at Pattijoki, Finland - Exploration of the huge stone circle.
Into the deep pine forest in almost nowhere, I and my guide finally reached the circled shaped Stone Age ruin of Kastelli at Pattijoki in Finland. It`s located around 80 kilometres north of the city Oulu. On a small long ridge we could observe a huge circle shape constructed of small stones. Around in the area there were fireplaces, big holes for storage of food and remains of a small village.

An abandoned village with eerie remnants of past life. Once a thriving community, Karinkanta is now a ghost village. The dilapidated buildings and overgrown paths tell stories of a bygone era. Legends speak of a curse that led to its abandonment, making it a place of intrigue and quiet reflection.
