An angry mob chased Jesus out of synagogue and out of the city, attempting to throw him off a cliff(Luke 4:16-30), but he escaped into the valley, without harm
As written in Luke 4:29-30: "The people of Nazareth, not accepting Jesus as Messiah tried to push him from the mountain, but "he passed through the midst of them and went away."
Photos and information is based on the Norwegian adventurer Mihaly Hadnagy`s journey in Isreal in October 2010. One of his greatest adventures was admiring the sunset at Mount Precipice. Rising above the southern part of the Nazareth, Mount Precipice (397 meters) looks out over Nazareth, Mt. Tabor and the Yizrael Valley at its foot.
Mount Precipice is also known as Mount of Precipitation, Mount of the Leap of the Lord and Mount Kedumim. It`s located in Lower Galilee, close to the cities of Nazareth and Nazareth Illit.
At the foot of the mountain is the Qafzeh cave where neolithic remains were found (7000 BC). Archaeological excavations in the Qafzeh Cave in the mountain found human remains, whose estimated age is 90,000 years old. Those humans were buried properly. Pottery found in the site and other findings indicate that the place was used for residence as well as for burial (Source: Wikipedia).
During the 20th century the mountain was used as a quarry. Now it`s abandoned. Today is a highway here,Highway 60, which goes through a tunnel dug in the mountain in the site of the old quarry, connecting Afula and Jezreel Valley (Arabic - Marj Ibn Amer) directly to Nazareth Illit.
In 2009 Pope Benedictus XVI gave a mass on the mountain, during his visit to Israel. 40,000 people participated in the mass.
