Lost in white - Finding Hala Sultan Tekke, Laranca in Cyprus

2026-04-06

Through the mist, Hala Sultan Tekke revealed itself slowly. Its white walls and slender minaret rising like a memory rather than a building. And the same time the salt lake was out of sight. It felt distant, almost unreal, as if the landscape had decided to keep its secrets just out of reach.

Photo. Hala Sultan Tekke lost in white.

Vanishing Point: Hala Sultan Tekke in the Fog. The flamingos never came. Instead, the world disappeared. On a silent salt lake outside Larnaca, Hala Sultan Tekke emerged through the mist: less a place, more a presence.

Vanishing Point: Hala Sultan Tekke in the Fog. The flamingos never came. Instead, the world disappeared. On a silent salt lake outside Larnaca, Hala Sultan Tekke emerged through the mist—less a place, more a presence. Into the White: Finding Hala Sultan Tekke. Some places reveal themselves slowly. Wrapped in fog, the salt lake faded into nothing, and Hala Sultan Tekke appeared—quiet, sacred, and suspended between worlds.

Hala Sultan Tekke is one of Islam's most sacred pilgrimage sites. It houses the tomb of Umm Haram, a close relative of Prophet Muhammad. The site is known for its peaceful gardens, white architecture, and resident cats.

This beautiful mosque has an unusual setting of being on a salt lake outside the city of Larnaca in Cyprus. The fog added today such a mystical layer to an already beautiful spot! There was something incredibly cinematic about seeing the minarets of the mosque peeking through the mist and the salt lake fading into a white horizon.

Through the Fog: A Silent Encounter with Hala Sultan Tekke. No flamingos. No colours. Just silence. On a mist-covered salt lake outside Larnaca, Hala Sultan Tekke emerged slowly like a vision suspended between water and sky.

The fog came quietly, wrapping the salt lake in silence. I stood there, searching for flamingos that never appeared, and instead found something else.

This sacred place, where Umm Haram rests, is usually defined by light and reflection. But today, it belonged to the fog. The lake dissolved into a white horizon, and the mosque floated between earth and sky. No colours. No crowds. Just stillness.

And in that stillness, it became something more than a place. It became a moment I had to feel, not see.
