2004-02-22
Archaeologists have found remains of two prehistoric stone circles in Germany, which are approximately 2000 year older than the English Stonehenge (Aftenposten, 30th August 2000). These circles are probably built by sun worshipers.

They were found near the city Deliztsch, north for Leipzig, in the east sub state Sachsen. This construction was build for approximately 7000 years ago. The stones can not be longer seen, but they have in the their time been placed in so that they matches with sun's position under the summer solstice.

Many believed that there only were Stonehenge(s) in England, but now it has to be reconsidered.

Standing stones, stone circles, rows and other prehistoric monuments are one of the most mysterious features of the British and Irish landscape. Many thousands gathered at the Open Event at Stonehenge this summer solstice. Stonehenge is located south in England near the town Salisbury.

Stonehenge is probably the most important prehistoric monument in the whole of Britain. It is a prehistoric temple of which has attracted visitors from earliest times. It stands as a timeless monument to the people who built it. The Stonehenge that we see today is the final stage that was completed about 3500 years ago, but the incredible work started for about 5000 years ago.

Megalithic mysteries in Britiain, Eire and Ireland: is there any connection with the Stonehenge in England? We are still exploring interesting things from our oldest past, but it remains to tell us more what this found really mean.

Stein Morten Lund, 30 August 2000
