African Culture History - African Voices - Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History

Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, stands behind the website African Voices. The museum`s exhibition has the same name and gives an overview over the African continent’s history. It`s covers the human origin from around 200 years ago, ancient civilizations and the colony dominance until todays Africa.

The website gives a chronological overview over Africa’s long history.

The website is rich illustrated, and it`s possible to navigate through the centuries by follow a timeline on bottom of the page.

Based on information on the website, the African Voices is also a permanent exhibition that examines the diversity, dynamism, and global influence of Africa’s peoples and cultures over time in the realms of family, work, community, and the natural environment.

Included are historical and contemporary objects from the Museum’s collections, as well as commissioned sculptures, textiles, and pottery. Video interactives and sound stations provide selections from contemporary interviews, literature, proverbs, prayers, folk tales, songs, and oral epics.
