Adventures i Poland

Wawel castle,Krakow,Poland

Most tourist attractions in Poland are connected with natural environment, historic sites and cultural events. Especially after Poland joined the European Union in 2004, it became a place frequently visited by tourists. The most popular cities are Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Warsaw, Poznań, Lublin, Toruń and the historic site of Auschwitz - German nazi concentration camp in Oświęcim.

Photo. The Gothic Wawel Castle in Kraków in Poland was built at the behest of Casimir III the Great, who reigned from 1333 to 1370, and consists of a number of structures situated around the central courtyard.

The best recreational destinations include Poland's Masurian Lake District, Baltic Sea coast, Tatra Mountains (the highest mountain range of Carpathians), Sudetes and Białowieża Forest. Poland's main tourist offers consist of sightseeing within cities and out-of-town historical monuments, business trips, qualified tourism, agrotourism, mountain hiking (trekking) and climbing among others. Poland is the 17th most visited country in the world by foreign tourists, as ranked by World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2012.

Some of our articles about Poland are:

Under the Iron Curtain in the socialist town Nowa Huta, Krakow, Poland
Taking a tour to the Nowa Huta district, Krakow 's famous communist enclave, was a strange experience for me. As I could understand, the life under the communism was really absurd. Nowa Huta was originally a gift from Stalin. This working-class quarter boasts some great "grey" communist architecture. Its also still bears testament to the power of the Soviets.

Gdansk, Poland - Christmas joy to the fullest 2013
The magic of Christmas was very much alive in Gdansk, especially in the old town. Streets, houses, bars, restaurants and shops windows were full of Christmas decorations. The most visible evidence of the Christmas celebration in Gdansk was the beautiful decorated and lightened Christmas tree on the Dluga Street.

Gdansk harbour in Poland - The rise of Lech Walesa and Solidarity
Think Gdansk and think home of Solidarity: the labor union that struck a shipyard and started a movement that eventually led to the fall of Communism in Poland and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.

Auschwitz, Krakow – The children`s shoes!
What happened to children in Auschwitz? Walking around in the largest concentration camp from the Second World War gave me a history lesson for life. The history became so unpleasant real. Auschwitz was also the site of the largest mass murder in the history of the world. Especially one thing made a strong emotional impression on me: a large collection of children`s shoes.

Wawel Castle in Krakow, Cracow, Poland - A wonderful landmark and residence for the dragon!

Krakow, Poland - On site where Schindler`s list saved life!
One of the most shocking movies I ever have seen is Schindler`s list. In Krakow I visited the recently open Shindler`s museum in the factory which Schindler used to employ refugees during the Second World War. In this way he saved more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during WWII.

The Gothic Wawel Castle is both an architectural and historial landmark in Krakow, Cracow, in Poland.
Wawel Hill is also probably the most important place in the city. The castle was built at the behest of Casimir III the Great and consists of a number of structures situated around the central courtyard. The Wawel Hill used to be the residence of Polish Kings and according to the legend, the dragon.

Sunrise in Gdansk, Poland - Christmas Celebration 2013 has started!
Sunrise in Gdansk, Poland, admired through an open window from my hotel room in the 14th floor (Sunday 2nd Advent 8th December 2013). Even with cold strong winds in periods, it was a great christmas atmosphere here with snow covering the architectural wonders in the beautiful old town. Gdansk is also the city where the Second World War started (first battle) and where the Solidarity movement arose tearing down the Iron Curtain.
